Moss

HuangYalin
As part of forest ecosystems, mosses play an important role in maintaining soil moisture, reducing erosion and promoting nutrient cycling. However, large-scale deforestation during the colonial period destroyed the environment on which mosses depended, leading to the degradation of the ecosystem. Colonialism often centered on the extraction of natural resources by converting native forests into cash crop plantations (e.g., rubber, cotton, sugar cane). This process ignores the complex ecological networks of forests and destroys insignificant but important species such as mosses. At the same time, moss is an extremely resilient plant, a characteristic that also symbolizes the resilience and adaptability of cultures and ecosystems oppressed by colonialism. For this project, I designed a book and a motion poster about moss.
